KCSE Cluster Points Calculator 2025
Calculate your KUCCPS cluster points for different university courses. Select a cluster and enter your KCSE grades to see your weighted cluster points.
Trusted by farmers, contractors, and businesses across Kenya. Verified calculations based on official 2025 data from KNBS, KALRO, and industry experts.
What are Cluster Points?
Cluster points are weighted scores calculated from your KCSE grades in specific subjects relevant to a course. Unlike mean grade which treats all subjects equally, cluster points give more weight to subjects important for your chosen course. For example, Biology and Chemistry carry more weight for Medicine, while Mathematics and Physics carry more weight for Engineering. First calculate your KCSE mean grade to know if you meet the minimum requirements.

How Cluster Points are Calculated
Calculation Formula
- Identify the cluster for your desired course
- Get your KCSE grades for the required subjects
- Convert each grade to points (A=12 to E=1)
- Multiply each by the subject weight
- Add up all weighted points
- Compare with course cutoff points
Example: Engineering Cluster
Student's Grades:
- Mathematics: A- (11 pts) × 3 = 33
- Physics: B+ (10 pts) × 3 = 30
- Chemistry: B (9 pts) × 2 = 18
- English: B (9 pts) × 1 = 9
Total Cluster Points: 33+30+18+9 = 90
Maximum Possible: (12×3)+(12×3)+(12×2)+(12×1) = 108
Percentage: 90/108 = 83.3%

Frequently Asked Questions - KUCCPS Cluster Points
What is the difference between cluster points and mean grade?▼
Mean Grade: Your overall KCSE performance calculated from your best 7 subjects with equal weight (each subject = 12 points max). Maximum is 84 points.
Cluster Points: Course-specific weighted scores where subjects relevant to the course carry more weight. For example, Biology and Chemistry have higher weights for Medicine than for Engineering.
KUCCPS uses both in placement decisions - you need to meet minimum mean grade AND have competitive cluster points for your chosen course.
How do I know which cluster my course belongs to?▼
KUCCPS categorizes all university courses into clusters based on subject requirements:
- Cluster 1: Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing (Biology, Chemistry focus)
- Cluster 2: Engineering, Architecture (Math, Physics focus)
- Cluster 3: Law, Social Sciences (Languages, Humanities focus)
- Cluster 4: Business, Commerce (Math, Business focus)
- Cluster 5-6: Education (Arts/Science)
- Cluster 7: Agriculture, Environment
Visit the KUCCPS portal to see the exact cluster for any course.
Can I apply for courses in different clusters?▼
Yes! During KUCCPS application, you can select courses from different clusters. However, you should strategically choose courses where your cluster points are competitive.
Tips:
- Calculate your cluster points for multiple clusters
- Apply for courses where your points exceed the previous year's cutoff
- Have backup choices in clusters where you have strong subjects
- Consider your career interests alongside points
What are the cutoff points for competitive courses?▼
Cutoff points vary each year, but here are typical ranges for popular courses:
- Medicine (UoN): 44-48 cluster points
- Law (UoN, Moi): 40-44 cluster points
- Engineering (JKUAT, UoN): 38-42 cluster points
- Architecture: 36-40 cluster points
- Commerce: 34-38 cluster points
- Education (Science): 28-32 cluster points
- Education (Arts): 26-30 cluster points
These are approximate figures - actual cutoffs depend on applications received each year.
When is KUCCPS application deadline?▼
KUCCPS application typically opens in January after KCSE results are released and closes in February-March.
Key dates to note:
- First Application: January - February (after results release)
- Revision Window: Usually 2-3 weeks after first application
- Placement Results: April - May
